The town of Mary Valley is located in the Gympie Region of Queensland, Australia. The history of Mary Valley dates back to the early 1800s when the area was inhabited by the Gubbi Gubbi people, who were the traditional owners of the land.

In the mid-1800s, European settlers came to the area seeking timber. The Mary River, which runs through the valley, was a major source of timber. The river was used to transport logs downstream to the town of Maryborough, where the timber was shipped to other parts of Australia and overseas.

Gold was discovered in Gympie in 1867, and the Mary Valley area soon became a hub of activity as prospectors flocked to the region. Many of the early settlers in Mary Valley were involved in gold mining, and the river was again used as a key transportation route.

The town of Mary Valley grew rapidly during this time, with businesses such as hotels, stores, and blacksmiths opening to cater to the needs of the mining community. In 1884, the first railway line was built in the area, which further boosted the local economy.

As the gold rush faded, the economy in Mary Valley shifted towards agriculture. The fertile soil in the valley was ideal for crops such as sugarcane, dairy farming, and beef cattle. The Mary Valley Railway, which had been built to transport gold, was now used to transport agricultural products to other parts of Queensland.

During World War II, the Mary Valley area played an important role in the war effort. A number of military bases were set up in the region, including the Amamoor Range Training Area, which is still in use today.

In recent times, Mary Valley has become a popular tourist destination. The area is known for its scenic beauty, with lush rainforests, rolling hills, and sparkling creeks and rivers. Visitors can enjoy a range of activities such as hiking, biking, canoeing, and fishing.

The town of Mary Valley has a rich history that is still evident in its buildings, landmarks, and culture. Today, the town is a vibrant community that continues to evolve while honoring its past.
